A clause of concession shows a contrast: the main action happens in spite of the circumstance in the subordinate clause. In «Though it was cold, we stayed outside.» the clause with «though» expresses this contrast, so it is a complex sentence with a concessive clause. «We stayed outside because it was warm.» has a clause of reason. «The garden where we stayed was cold.» has an attributive (relative) clause. «It was cold, so we stayed inside.» is a compound sentence with coordinated clauses, not a complex one.
