Short adjectives and adverbs take -er/-est, long adjectives take more/most, and irregular forms (good - better, bad - worse - worst) must be learned. A double comparative is wrong. "This is the most interesting book I have ever read." is correct because the long adjective interesting forms the superlative with most. "Today is the worst day of the week for me." is correct because the superlative of bad is worst. "He speaks English better than he did last year." is correct because better is the comparative of the adverb well. "My brother runs more fast than I do." is wrong because the short adverb fast needs faster. "She is more taller than her sister." is wrong because it combines more and -er; the correct form is taller. "Winter is the most cold season in our region." is wrong because the short adjective cold needs the coldest.
