Last Saturday our town held a small science fair in the school hall. Dana, who is my cousin, built a model of a wind turbine, and Ruslan showed a simple water filter. The judges walked slowly between the tables, and they asked every pupil a question. One judge asked Dana, "How does your turbine produce electricity?" Dana explained that the moving blades turn a small motor. Because the model worked well, the judges gave her a prize. What a clever idea it was! Ruslan was disappointed, but he decided to improve his filter. "Come and see our project next year," he told the visitors. Nobody left the hall until the fair was over.

In a reported question the word order becomes that of a statement, so there is no auxiliary "does" or "did" before the subject. The question word "how" stays, and the verb moves into the past: "how her turbine produced electricity". The variants with "does" and "did" keep the question word order, and the variant with "whether" changes the question into a yes/no question.
