Read the text and choose the sentence that does NOT fit the main idea of the text. Honeybees communicate with each other by dancing. When a bee finds flowers with plenty of nectar, it returns to the hive and performs a 'waggle dance'. Honey has been used in traditional medicine in many countries for centuries. The direction of the dance shows where the flowers are, and its length shows how far away they are. Thanks to this dance, other bees can fly straight to the food.
Read the text and choose the conclusion that is best supported by it.When the town council of Marlow replaced paper parking tickets with a phone app, officials predicted that revenue would rise and complaints would fall. Within a year revenue did rise, but so did complaints: many elderly residents, who had no smartphones, were fined for not paying. The council then installed coin machines in three car parks. Complaints dropped, but revenue fell again, because drivers who had been paying large fines now paid only the normal fee. One councillor remarked that the app had never been a failure of technology, but a failure to ask who would use it.
Read the text and choose the statement that is best supported by it.A coastal village in Norway began paying fishermen a small bonus for every worn-out net they brought back to the harbour instead of dumping it at sea. After the first year the scheme looked like a failure: the weight of recovered netting was far below the council's estimate of how much had previously been lost. However, that estimate had been based on the number of nets sold in local shops, and a later survey showed that many fishermen had been repairing old nets instead of buying new ones. When the council recalculated the figures using the survey, it found that the amount of netting lost at sea had fallen by almost a third.

Nurlan edits the English newsletter at his school in Astana. Before each issue, the club meets its teacher, Mr Hill, to check the sentences in the articles. Mr Hill explains that every complete sentence needs a subject and a predicate. For example, "The students visited the museum." is a simple sentence because it has one subject and one predicate. A compound sentence joins two equal main clauses with a conjunction such as and, but or so: "The museum was crowded, but the guide spoke clearly." A complex sentence has one main clause and at least one subordinate clause: "Although it was raining, the students walked to the museum." Mr Hill also reminds the club that sentences have different purposes. A declarative sentence gives information, an interrogative sentence asks a question, an imperative sentence gives an order or advice, and an exclamatory sentence expresses strong feeling. In Nurlan's draft article there are three such sentences: "Where did the group go after lunch?", "Please bring your tickets." and "What a beautiful building it was!" Mr Hill also found three mistakes. The first was "Went to the park after lunch." The second was "We visited the park, we took many photos." Two main clauses cannot be joined by a comma alone; the writer should add a conjunction such as and, use a semicolon, or start a new sentence. The third mistake was in word order. In an English statement the usual order is subject, verb, object, so "Yesterday visited our class the museum." sounded strange. Nurlan corrected all three mistakes, and the next issue of the newsletter was ready on Friday.
